| Fly Fishing in a Trout Stream |
Lunksoos is half a mile from the confluence of Wassataquoik (Wah sa' ta cook) Stream and the East Branch of the Penobscot River, where an August 2007 study by Midwest Biodiversity Institute found plentiful landlocked salmon and brook trout. In the East Branch of the Penobscot River, where Lunksoos Camps is located, you can fish for landlocked salmon, brook trout, and bass. Bass fishing is particularly good in the summer and fall as the water in the river warms.
Bring a boat or borrow our canoe so you can drift down the river and enjoy a great day on the water, or enjoy walking and fishing along the river bank.
Landlocked salmon and brook trout:
Concentrate your efforts on the streams coming into the river and the upper portions of the river where the current is swift.
Here's what Maine's Dept. of Inland Fisheries has to say about our location:
The "East Branch of the Penobscot River, from Matagamon Lake to the confluence with the West Branch...offers a myriad of fishing experiences throughout the system, from fly fishing for brook trout and landlocked salmon in the upper reaches to spin fishing for bass in the area below Whetstone Falls."
